CEA at INES, ENEL Green Power and its subsidiary 3SUN of Catania, are developing the tandem perovskite-silicon technology with two terminals to reach the highest industrially feasible efficiencies as soon as possible.

Their new record obtained for a PIN architecture cell is a conversion efficiency of 26.5% on 9 cm² with shading correction.

The device with an active area of 9 cm² has a Voc above 1880 mV.

Earlier records had been reached in April 2022 with 24,9%, then in December 2022 with 25.8% still with a tandem cell of PIN architecture on 9 cm² and with shading correction.

The race towards higher efficiency (>30%) Si/PK tandem cells with PIN architecture, on large surfaces and on their manufacturing processes, is going on...

Perovskite (PK) materials have been agitating the solar scientific and industrial community since the discovery of their photovoltaic properties in 2012. These materials represent an opportunity for a major technological leap forward by paving the way for photovoltaic cells to achieve conversion efficiencies of more than 30%, with little additional cost, by combining them with a lower band-gap material such as silicon (Si). Scientific and technical progress is rapid in this field with a certified world record currently held by HZB with 32.5% on 1 cm2 (https://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/pubbin/news_seite?nid=24348;sprache=en ).
