2CA, a company specializing in composite materials, has sold its first Operasol ultra-lightweight custom PV modules to customers in the space and defense industry.

The company had been working with French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) researchers at INES since 2014 to develop Operasol.

The R&D partnership resulted in an innovative technology that enables lightweight, high-performance custom modules made from composite materials. The modules are 70%* lighter and 64% smaller than modules built from traditional materials. The CEA has been supporting 2CA through the technology transfer process, providing the company's staff with training and helping scale the product up for manufacturing.
